The long journey for the Inishowen side had the potential to cause plenty of problems but Shane Byrne’s outfit quashed that by scoring three goals on the road in impressive style.
Conor Barrow gave Glengad the lead in the first 15 minutes, sending his effort past the Clonmel goalkeeper C Barrett.
In the second half, Clonmel responded when Ryan Lambe struck level for the Munster side after 64 minutes.
However, goals from Terence Doherty and Christy Fildara in the final stages sealed their fate in style.
Glengad started brightly and they had an early chance when Terence Doherty stretched down the right side before whipping the ball across the six-yard box but it was cleared for a corner kick.
After 15 minutes, Doherty was causing more problems for the Clonmel Town defence and his long-range effort hit off the crossbar before steering in the direction of Conor Barrow who made no mistake from close range.
After the interval, Clonmel Town flew out of the traps quickly and just after the hour mark they got level against the run of play.
After weathering a barrage from the Glengad attack, Clonmel restored parity through Ryan Lambe, who tapped home at the back post.
With the potential for extra-time and penalties, Glengad pushed to restore their advantage and their wish was granted when Barrett fumbled Doherty’s effort into his own goal.
With 10 minutes left, Glengad turned on the style and began to turn the screw.
Winning a free-kick 30-yards out, Christy Fildara failed to show modesty as he fired Glengad’s third into the top corner of the Clonmel net.
