Ronan Curtis was on the mark for Portsmouth this afternoon – but Pompey fell to defeat to fellow promotion hopefuls Charlton Athletic.
Curtis, named in a provisional Republic of Ireland senior squad by new manager Mick McCarthy late in the week, netted his 11th goal of the season, but it wasn’t enough to inspire a win.
Charlton led through Joe Aribo, but Curtis drew the visitors level at The Valley just before half-time.
The St Johnston man surged into the area, to rise high, meet a Lee Brown corner and power a bullet header to the net.
After the break, Lyle Taylor restored the advantage for Charlton.
Portsmouth rallied and Curtis was inches from converting Jamal Lowe’s low drive across the goal face.
