The Ballybofey and Stranorlar Text Alert committee said they have reached a number of agreements with gardaí following a meeting last week.
The recent spate of break-ins in the Twin Towns area was top of the agenda in the discussions with Garda Superintendent Micheal Finnan, Sergeant Kevin Lynch of Ballybofey Garda Station and Sergeant Eunan Walsh, who is in charge of text alert in the Letterkenny Garda district.
The Text Alert committee said that they came away with assuring developments on policing and the alert scheme. They were encouraged to learn that four Sergeants have been allocated to Ballybofey Garda Station, which will also have enhanced opening times.
Agreement was reached on a number of issues such as when should text alert messages be sent out and who can authorise sending a text.
Other policing matters in the Twin Towns and Finn Valley area, such as garda resources, were also discussed.
A statement from the Committee said: “We are pleased to learn that the garda station opening hours are improving and that there is now four sergeants allocated to the Ballybofey Garda Station which is one of the busiest in the county.”
“We will continue to lobby for improvements in policing and crime prevention measures in the area.”
“A meeting of Text alert members including representatives from An Garda Síochana will be held in the coming weeks to update everyone on recent developments and to hear suggestions on how to improve the text alert in our area .”
