The Stranorlar man who had been Ireland’s longest-surviving lung transplant patient has died.
Brendan McLaughlin passed away at the Mater Hospital in Dublin.
A long-time health campaigner, Brendan – of Mulreany Terrace, Stranorlar – had a double lung transplant in 1992 after nine weeks on a life-support machine.
Brendan, with his mother, Frances, underwent surgery in Newcastle.
Brendan subsequently received a new kidney and made regular visits to Beaumont, the Mater and the James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Dublin, where is respiratory doctor was located.
Cystic fibrosis patient Brendan’s long battle came to an end as he sadly passed away.
Some years ago, he was also given the Last Rites after falling into a coma due to pneumonia, but fought back.
Predeceased by his mother Frances and sister Martina, Brendan is survived by his father Seamus, brothers Gerard, Seamus and Kevin, sister Frances and his devoted partner Martina.
Brendan’s remains will repose at the home of his brother and sister in law,Gerard and Teresa Mc Laughlin,16 Ash Meadows, Drumboe, Stranorlar from 7pm this evening (Tuesday)
Funeral leaving from there on Thursday Feb 28th at 10.20 am for Requiem Mass at 11 am in the Church of Mary Immaculate, Stranorlar, with interment afterwards in Drumboe cemetery. Donations in lieu to Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, care of any family member.
