A Letterkenny student’s impressive road safety poster has been selected as the winner of Donegal’s 2019 Road Safety Art competition.
The Donegal Road Safety Working Group and Finn Harps Football Club Primary School Road Safety Art competition was open to all Primary Schools in Donegal and attracted almost 900 entries.
The winning drawing was submitted by Kasia Wach, Scoil Mhuire gan Smál, Letterkenny.
The winning artwork will feature as an advertising hoarding promoting Road Safety in Finn Park for the 2019 season.
The presentation of prizes took place at Finn Harps first home game of the new season against Dundalk at Finn Park, Ballybofey on Friday 22nd February. The game finished 1-1 and all the category winners present had a great evening as guests of Finn Harps.
Donegal Road Safety Officer, Brian O’Donnell, praised all the schools for their participation in this very important Road Safety initiative.
He said: “I would like to thank all the schools for getting behind this exciting competition. We were just amazed by the high standard of all the drawings we received, but Kasia’s really stood out. The level of detail is amazing, the drawing highlights a major concern to everyone and the message is clear and relevant: drink and drug driving is a major danger for all road users today and it needs to stop.
“I wish to also congratulate all the category winners and particularly at this time, urge all parents and guardians everywhere to build on the work being done in our schools by demonstrating safe and responsible road use at all times. It is fantastic that the teachers and pupils got so strongly involved and it is my hope that each pupil who took part will have an increased awareness of road safety as a result,” Mr O’Donnell concluded.
