Gardaí in Inishowen are on the hunt for a valuable cross which thieves took from a church last week.
The Bronze Celtic Cross was stolen from St Finian’s Church of Ireland building in Greencastle on Thursday night or Friday morning.
The burglars broke into the building by forcing open the door into the vestry at the rear of the building. The break-in was discovered on Friday by two members of the congregation.
As Gardaí investigate the unsettling incident, they are appealing for the public’s assistance in locating the stolen cross.
Anyone with any information in relation to the burglary or the location of this cross is asked to contact Gardaí at Moville Garda Station on 07493 82002 or Buncrana Garda Station on 07493 20540
Rev Suzanne Cousins led prayers for the burglars on Sunday morning. At the time, she said: “It would be best for everyone if the person or persons responsible quietly came forward and returned the cross.”
