The new mountain bike season kicks off shortly and two Donegal riders from either end of the county are fully focused on podium positions.
Donegal Town’s Adam Voss and Callum Morris from Clonmany have plans for a busy season competing in the Irish downhill series (IDMS) and both Vitus enduro series north and south of the border.
Adam, a member of Tír Chonaill Gap cycling club, was fourth overall in the 2018 IDMS taking third place at both Rostrevor and Bike Park Ireland races in the sport category.
Impressive form he carried into the Red Bull Foxhunt at Rostrevor in October, a unique mass start downhill race with 550 riders, including word champions Loic Bruni and Colin Ross, competing on a course built specifically for the event.
Adam finished in the top 50 with a run he described as ‘awful’ afterwards, although a clean run would have had him further up the field it was still an excellent result.
Cullum’s 2018 season was curtailed due to his age. After second place at the Davagh Enduro, the Inishowen Wheelers rider had to wait until September to compete again and the week after he turned 12 he took top spot at Tollymore enduro and then again at the IDMS final round, results that saw him get signed for 2019 by the Dirtyrides MTB Apparel Enduro team.
The form they showed at the end of last season and a lot of winter training means both riders will certainly be ones to watch for 2019 and given there is no purpose built facilities in Donegal it makes their talents all the more impressive.
The Enduro season starts in Ravensdale forest Co Louth on April 6 and the following weekend sees the IDMS start in Carrick, Co Wicklow.
With 16 events on the calendar, in various locations including Kerry, Wexford and Down the lads will be covering a lot of miles between April and September.
Both clubs wish them well for the season ahead and hopefully the Donegal flag will be flying high throughout the year.
