TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site, has today revealed the award winners the best beaches in Ireland and worldwide.
However, Donegal’s coastal hotspots have failed to make it to the Top 10 for 2019.
Despite having 12 Blue Flags and being renowned as a county with some of Ireland’s most beautiful beaches, Donegal has this year been beaten by Cork, Kerry, Sligo, Clare and Dublin.
Kerry took six places in the Top 10, with Inchdoney Beach in Cork claiming the number one spot in Ireland. Baia do Sancho Brazil was crowned best beach in the world.
Donegal has fared well in these TripAdvisor awards in previous years. Most recently, Silver Strand Beach at Malin Beg was ranked seventh best beach last year.
Narin Beach was listed at number nine in 2017 and the Maghera Beach and Caves in Ardara took seventh place in 2016.
Commenting on the 2019 Travellers’ Choice Awards, Hayley Coleman at TripAdvisor said: “These awards recognise the best beaches in Ireland and worldwide, according to the travellers that have visited and given them the highest levels of praise.”
