Funding has been secured for one of the county’s worse accident black spots at Knock Crossroads in Ballybofey.
Cllr Patrick McGowan has received confirmation from the Stranorlar roads office that funding has been secured for safety works at Knock Crossroads in Ballybofey and at the old mill Rockfield Road near Navenny.
Cllr McGowan said “There have been multiple accidents at Knock Crossroads over the years with some vehicles going through this busy junction apparently unaware that oncoming vehicles had the right of way.
“Only this week we saw another accident with emergency services in attendance which is now becoming all too regular occurrence.
“A list of works are being designed by the Council to highlight the junction, improve vision lines and install further signage etc.
“The works at Rockfield road Dreenan is to pipe the old Mill drain on the road edge which is very wide and deep.
“Last year a number of people were lucky to escape when their car landed upside down in this drain.”
The area roads manager Claire Mc Geever has acknowledged that there are other serious jobs that need attention across this entire area but the money is not forthcoming from the Department.
Cllr McGowan added there is only enough funding available for these two low-cost accident locations in 2019.
“I have pushed the roads office to begin work as soon as possible,” said Cllr McGowan.
