Hockey: Raphoe’s season ends in disappointment against Queens University

Raphoe travelled to Queens University on Saturday looking to continue on after the victory last week over Harlequinns.
Raphoe started the game like most games all season, conceding very early in the match with a drag flick from a short corner.
Raphoe still hadn’t got into the game and it became 2 – 0 when an attack down Raphoe’s left side found an attacker from Queens free inside the circle.
It was soon 3 – 0 to Queens after another short corner went in, a 20 minute period Raphoe would soon forget. It seemed to take the three goals to get the Raphoe team going as they started to play the ball around and won a short corner which Tom Eaton struck, the Queens keeper made a save but no Raphoe men were on hand for the rebound.
Again, Raphoe won another short corner and this time Jonny Long stepped up to drag flick and he found the back of the net, keeping his Raphoe team in touching distance of queens going into half time.
Raphoe went into the second half with all guns blazing, with a high press causing the Queen’s team a lot of problems and it paid off for Raphoe when Tommy Orr was played in by George Patterson, Orr looked to round the keeper but the keeper made a save.
However, the ball was still alive and Orr kept battling and all he had to do was a simple tap in for a goal but he was tackled from behind which won Raphoe a penalty stroke which Keith Meehan converted nicely to make it 3 – 2.
Raphoe on top and looking for the equalizer and chances fell to Tommy Orr, George Patterson and James Wilson which could of gave their team a lead but they were unable to capitalise with these chances and Raphoe were made to pay, with Queens scoring three goals on the counter while Raphoe pushed for a leveller.
Raphoe’s season is over for another year finishing 10th in the league and they would like to thank everybody who supported the team throughout the season.
Raphoe 1st XI: A. Moore, T. Eaton, E.Lyttle, K.Meehan, J.Long, T.Orr, A.Crumley, I. McG, G.Patterson, A.Meehan, John.Watt, S.Clevery, J.Wilson, Z. West
