The installation of new Disabled Parking signs is well underway across the county following a campaign by Donegal Action for Cancer Care.
Fifty new signs are being installed at an elevated position to alert motorists to the increased fines incurred for illegally parking in disabled bays.
The new concept was the result of a motion brought before Donegal County Council in March 2018. The council agreed to raise a number of signs in key areas to act as a deterrent to illegal parkers, as well as elevated signs helping disabled drivers find zones when they are visiting new towns.
So far, 30 out of 50 signs have been installed with the remainder expected to be erected in the coming weeks.
Donegal Action for Cancer Care spokesperson Betty Holmes said she will continue to keep a tight eye on the progress.
Ms Holmes said, “The Council would be interested in any feedback that can be gathered on the effectiveness of these new signs over the next number of months as people get used to them. It is important for us in DACC to acknowledge the help of the Director of Services, Roads & Transportation, Donegal County Council.”
