Operation Transformation hero Cathal Gallagher has revealed how he suffers from depression and has wanted to take his own life.
However, the brilliant Ballyshannon man has spoken about how he is reclaiming his life through his weight loss.
The paramedic lost more weight this week as he continues to impress the judges of the RTE show. Cathal even found the time this week to visit Letterkenny IT this where he spoke in front of a packed lecture hall – urging anyone suffering with mental health problems to seek help straight away.
He said: “I grew up in a community and environment where people didn’t talk about their mental health. Mental health is so important.
“This is one of the biggest messages I’m trying to get across to people in the Operation Transformation process.
“I have held in my emotions for years. There was times where I couldn’t see the positivity in my life.
“I had my wife at home, and I had my family and friends. I knew back then they cared about me but I couldn’t see that. I couldn’t feel that.
“I contemplated taking my own life on a number of occasions. I know what I didn’t do, I didn’t look for help.
“If people are suffering from depression or anxiety, go and get help.”
Cathal went on to reveal the support from the Operation Transformation viewers had helped him dramatically throughout his weight loss journey.
He said: “The support from the community, the country has been mind-blowing. There’s an acknowledgement, support and love from people.
“It’s such a nice feeling.”
Cathal managed to beat his weigh-in goal again this week – shedding a massive five pounds since in seven days.
