Rathmullan Film Fest is opening a pop-up box office this Sunday, February 17, to coincide with Valentine’s 5k Beach Run/Walk in the village to give people the chance to get their tickets on the day.
Most of the kids’ events are already sold out and many of the screenings are filling up quickly, so if you haven’t gone online to book your tickets yet, then you can buy them on Sunday from 12.30pm at the office beside the public toilets.
In its second year, Rathmullan Film Fest which runs during the mid-term break from Thursday, February 21 to Sunday, February 24, has a great programme of events to suit everyone – kids, film lovers, soccer fans, environmentalists, wine buffs – and all the experiences are being played out in the local restaurants, schools, bars and restaurants.
It’s a cinema-free film festival!
In fact, two of the most popular films are screened in churches. Classic ‘The Third Man’ will show at St Columba’s Church of Ireland on the evening of Saturday, Febraury 23, and the festival will close with the screening of Pope Francis – A Man of his Word’ the following night in St Joseph’s Church.
Scottish actor and Bafta winner Paul Brannigan who played Scotty in Love/Hate is travelling over from Glasgow for the festival and to host a Q&A session at Rathmllan House.

Persepolis – Thursday, Feb 21-An Bonan Bui – 4-6pm (5e)
Based on co-director Marjane Satrapi’s graphic novel, this autobiographical animation film (2007, 96min,
PG-13) charts the period of her life growing up in Iran during the revolution of 1979, the Iran/Iraq war that
followed and her time alone in Europe.
Albatross – Documentary and discussion – Friday Feb 22 – Beachcomber & White Harte – 12-4pm (Free)
An afternoon of film & discussion about how the immense scale of plastic consumption is affecting our planet. Starting at the Beachcomber bar, for the documentary film Albatross (Chris Jordan, 2017, 97min, PG-12), introduction by Jane Gaston.
Post-screening discussion with local groups. Then join the Rathmullan Coast Care & Green Team for a beach and pier walk followed by some soup at the White Harte.

Great evening of film & discussion about key issues in soccer today.
Radical Play (7mins) shows how a soccer team in Dublin is helping young women dispel stereotypes about Muslims.
Iron Men (75mins) discusses club modernisation and offers a behind the scenes of West Ham United’s move
to a new home after 112 years at Upton Park.
Ken McCue, from Sport Against Racism Ireland, Iron Men’s director Paul Crompton and Megan Harding, a physiotherapist working with soccer teams in the North West of Ireland will be in attendance for discussion.

Muirgheilt (Tara Hegarty, 2017, 8min) A fisherman’s legend says it’s bad luck to have a woman on a boat.

Riders to the Sea (Orla Walsh, 2013, 5min) A surfing duel breaks out between a male and female surfer
off the West Coast of Ireland. Breaking waves, racing heart, and the treachery of Lycra.
Ma (Anne-Marie Kelly, 2018, 9min) We can all empathise with the grief of the Mother of a Murder Victim… Can
we empathise with the grief of the Mother of the Murderer? Should we…?
All in Good Time (Bonnie Dempsey, 2017, 15min) – Comic fantasy about two children, one in 1918, the
other in 2018, who magically communicate through messages in a bottle and help solve each other’s problems.
The Widow’s Last (Vanessa Perdriau, 2017, 22min) – Historical Drama, set in Ireland during the third
year of The Great Hunger. Tells of Kathryn Healy, a hardened peasant farmer who fights to keep her young son alive.

Chased (Michele Manahan, 2018, 8min) How would the Irish dance, if we didn’t have ‘Irish dance’? Performed
by Ériu Dance Company and choreographed by Breandán de Gallaí in the Wicklow mountains.
What does Irishness Look Like? (Wuraola Majekodunmi, 2018, 7min) What is ‘Irishness’? Many have a stereotypical view of this when it comes to mind. However, there is no one way to look Irish, especially in 2019.
Cut it Out (Elspeth Vischer, 2018, 8min) Four women talk about violence they have experienced working as social workers as items of ‘workwear’ are sabotaged.
When the Rain Ends (Marco Recalchi, 2018, 11min) Far from Britain, a father and son start their new lives in Italy.

Saving Santa (Keith O’Grady, 2017, 17min) A smart and compassionate young girl, dealing with the death of her mother, finds comfort in helping a destitute looking man who bears a striking resemblance to ‘Santa Claus’.

Against All Odds – How I Got Here with Paul Brannigan
Join us for an inspiring Q&A session with Glasgow-born, BAFTA-winner actor Paul Brannigan who will talk about his tough upbringing, how he got into acting and how to grow/sustain a successful acting career.
Paul starred in the Ken Loach movie ‘Angels’ Share’, in ‘Under the Skin’ with Scarlett Johansson and played undercover cop Scotty on RTE 1’s Love/Hate.
