Calls have been made for the council to take ‘immediate action’ and add an ‘old, historic bridge’ to a list of protected structures.
Councillor James Pat McDaid spoke about the Old Radhedoge Bridge in Glenswilly at this week’s meeting of the Letterkenny Municipal District.
“Over the past number of years, it has 110 per cent been neglected,” Councillor McDaid said.
“It has not been maintained at all.
“In fairness to the Council, since I put in the motion, they have cut the trees and I appreciate that. It has made a huge improvement and I would ask the Council to monitor this over the summer months, when the hedges become overgrown.”
Councillor McDaid also asked that the vision lines at the bridge be improved.
And on asking for the bridge to be added to the list of protected structures, he said: “It is an old, historic bridge and there aren’t many left through the country. This has potential to be visible and quite scenic.
“I would strongly propose that it be considered.”
