Gardai have arrested a man after a high-speed pursuit during which the driver reached speeds of up to 160kph.
Gardai encountered the Saab 9-3 car which failed to stop and drove through numerous townlands in Gortahork.
A spokesman said “Gardaí in the Milford District last night encountered a Saab 9-3 car driving in excess of 160kph which failed to stop and engaged in numerous instances of dangerous driving through townlands in the Gortahork area.
“The driver had no regard for his own safety, that of his passengers or the local community.”
A message on the Donegal Garda Facebook page added that we all know Saab’s safety ratings are excellent, however when a Saab is reaching speeds of 160kph on the local roads concerned we do not need to explain the consequences!
The statement added “Thankfully, no other road users were put in danger. With the assistance of other patrol units we were able to apprehend the car and arrest the driver.”
A quantity of cannabis was also found in the car and the driver was not inusred.
The spokesman added “He was taken to Milford Garda station where he was processed and charged with various offences of dangerous driving and no insurance. A quantity of cannabis and cannabis joints (pending analysis) were also seized.”
