A clearly annoyed Minister Joe McHugh has hit out at what he has called “scaremongering” over the A5 motorway as well as Donegal’s community hospitals.
The Donegal politician took to Facebook to express his annoyance at the claims in a bid to put the record straight.
Pulling no punches, the Carrigart man claimed that some of the claims being put about surrounding the Children’s Hospital and how it will impact on other budgets are “bogus or totally malicious.”
He said “I’ve seen a lot of reckless scaremongering today around the cost of the Children’s Hospital.
“The claims are baseless. A lot of us like a #FactCheck these days so here goes…”
The Minister then goe son to address a number of direct issues
He says:
1. There will be ZERO impact on the work on the A5.
2. Construction work on community hospitals in Ballyshannon, Dungloe and Carndonagh is planned for this year.
3. The Government is 100% committed to the money for Ramelton & St Joseph’s community hospitals.
And he added “Enough of the scaremongering. Face the facts.
“The A5 has been dogged by delay because of political stalemate in the north, a legal challenge in the Belfast courts and a need for proper environmental impact assessment.
“The A5 is not being delayed as a result of the Children’s Hospital. €85million is committed to it over three years by this Government. And that commitment is steadfast.
“The commitment to the community hospitals is also clear. Anything else you read or hear is either bogus or totally malicious. #facts”
