A minor road in Glenswilly, which has not been extensively improved in 20 years, may be added to the roads restoration improvement programme for 2020.
The L59942 Magheralask Road is said to be ‘in a serious state of disrepair’ having not been improved since 1999, Councillor Adrian Glackin has said.
Councillor Glackin, speaking at this month’s meeting of the Letterkenny Municipal District, called on the Council to find the means ‘urgently’ to fix the road.
“It is deemed a public road, but it’s going nowhere,” Councillor Glackin said.
“People can’t get on the LIS scheme as it’s deemed a public road.
“This is my second time raising this issue. There is frustration from residents as other roads, which aren’t in as bad a shape, are coming under the LIS scheme funding.”
Some minor repair works have been carried out but, Councillor Glackin pointed out, the ‘tar has washed away and there is a lot of water on the road’, which has raised the ire of residents.
A number of dwellings are serviced by the Magheralask Road.
The Council confirmed that two signs, in a bid to address other safety concerns on the same road, will be erected ‘within the next week’ on the road.
