The Psychiatric Nurses Association is escalating its overtime ban from today (Wednesday) in a dispute over recruitment and retention crisis in nursing.
The industrial action was escalated from a daytime ban to a 24 hour overtime ban to highlight the “the reliance of mental health services on overtime”, according to a PNA spokesperson. The action will apply only to adult mental health services.
Peter Hughes, PNA General Secretary, said this week’s action by psychiatric nurses was going ahead in the absence of any meaningful engagement or proposals from the Government to address their issues.
The action comes as nurses and midwives represented by the INMO ended their 24 hour strike at 8am. The union is planning a third work stoppage on Thursday 7th February.
A joint PNA, INMO Rally of Nurses will be held this coming Saturday in Dublin, commencing at the Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square at 12.30pm.
