Yvonne Bonner kicked a goal on her AFLW debut for the Greater Western Sydney Giants.
The Giants lost to a Jess Wuetschner-led Brisbane Lions in a nail-biting two-point loss in Sunday afternoon’s AFL Women’s game in Burpengary.
Glenfin and Donegal ace Bonner, recruited following a Cross Coders trial in late 2018, scored the first Giants goal in the opening quarter, but her side went down 4.5 (29) to 4.3 (27).
In front of 2850 at Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex, Cora Staunton from Mayo kicked two goals for the Giants.
“It’s all good and well to be tough and hard and relentless but you’ve got to bring smarts with it as well. We worked hard enough to win but we weren’t quite smart enough to win so we’ve got some work to do,” said Giants coach Alan McConnell.
