Donegal’s inspirational Operation Transformation leader Cathal Gallagher had another victory this week with an incredible 6lb weight loss.
The Ballyshannon paramedic (aged 48) smashed his original target of 4lb to reach another victory in his weight loss journey.
Last night’s episode of the RTÉ health series saw the leaders facing many challenges, both physical and mental.
Guided by Letterkenny’s own Nikki Bradley, the five leaders were tasked with climbing the Sugar Loaf Mountain in Wicklow. Cathal pushed himself further up the mountain and set a goal to scale the entire thing in 12 months’ time.
At home, Cathal overcame other obstacles when he went to the pool and talked about achieving major steps on his body confidence journey.
The feature took a serious turn as Dr Sumi Dunne looked at Cathal’s health and warned him of the cardiovascular risks associated with his weight.
But the determined dad has proven he is serious about transforming his lifestyle with home exercises and food preparation.
Boosted by his supporters and the wider ambulance community, he stuck to his plans to achieve his weight loss goal of the week.
“Is that for real?”, Cathal exclaimed at the weigh-in when he saw his new reading of 24 stone 12lb.
“I’m very happy with that.”
He pledged to keep up with his plan in order to reach his next target of 4lb.
Fitness expert Karl Henry shared the excitement, telling Cathal: “When I measured you earlier, it was the first time I could get the tape measure all the way around your body. It was brilliant.”
