Earth was treated to a rare celestial event on Sunday night when a super blood wolf moon occurred.
The total eclipse excited many astronomers and skygazers as it was the last of its kind for two years.
However, Donegal stargazers had to battle heavy clouds in order to get a glimpse of the spectacle.
Photographer Noel Keating had a telescope and time-lapse camera set up in Ballintra for the night. The determined snapper was left frustrated by the elements covering the main event when the moon turned red.
However, he did catch a hazy view of the colour change and a spectacular lunar halo:
Noel said: “Having been looking forward to this for sometime now I can kinda forgot the slight problem that the presence of clouds creates, well I was reminded last night (Sunday) as the sky was completely covered in them and this really ruined all my plans.”
Noel was out in the cold from 2am to 5.30am and, while he didn’t clearly capture what he wanted, his work shows the frustrations photographers face when they want to photograph the night sky.
“If anything this video gives a insight to my struggle last night with the endless cloud, why could it not have be at least broken isolated clouds and give me some chance. ?,” he said.
