Three in-form Letterkenny Athletic Club runners ran in the IAAF International Cross Country in Dundonald, Northern Ireland on Saturday.
They were running for the Northern Ireland/Ulster team, having been deservedly selected on the basis of recent, excellent form. Eoin Hughes had a fine run in the Under 23 event. His time was 35.30 for 10K. The leading Under 23 runner was Irish International, Cormac Dalton.
Nakita Burke continued her good form and she was the 2nd Northern Ireland/Ulster runner. Breege Connolly was 1st. Nakita’s time, over the 8K course, was 29.35. Jack Holian ran well in the Under 17 event, coming home in 21.26 over the 5K event.
The winner of the Under 17 category was Ireland’s Paul Hartnett.
Raphoe was the venue on Saturday morning for the 2nd leg of the very popular Lifford/Strabane AC 3 race 5K series. Barry Mackey was the 1st LAC runner home.
His time was 19.06. Noel Lynch clocked 21.34 and Brian McBride 23.48. The race winner was Martin Cox in 15.53.
The 3rd and final event in the Series is the Lifford 5K, which will be on Sunday, February 3rd.
Several LAC runners ran in Saturday’s Letterkenny Parkrun.
Liam Ferry was, again, the first of the LAC contingent. He was the 2nd M40 runner in 20.42. Mark McFadden was the next M40 runner in his best time so far in a Letterkenny Parkrun, 21.19. Peter Gallagher, also competing in the M40 category, clocked 21.40. Anthony Farren’s time was 24.26.
Dara Dunne was 2nd in the W50 category in 24.29; it was her fastest Letterkenny Parkrun to date. James McBride was the 1st M65 runner in 26.02. Peter McLean, now just 14 away from the Century mark, finished in 26.53. Peter was the 2nd M55 runner. First across the line was Philip O’Hare in 19.52.
Letterkenny AC runner, Gerard McGranaghan, is organising a 10K in his local town, Kilmacrennan. The ‘Kilmac 10K’ is a recent and welcome addition to the Donegal winter running calendar.
The race, on Sunday, January 27th, has chip timing, starts at 11.00am and has an entry fee of €10.
Proceeds will go to the Kilmacrennan Community Development Group. Shower facilities are available, as well as Registration and Parking, at the Millbridge Shop.
