St Eunan’s Letterkenny students were joined by Minister for Education Joe McHugh at the renowned Microsoft DreamSpace innovation and education hub on Monday.
“The experience of being in a multinational’s offices, surrounded by all the skill, expertise and talent is a brilliant opportunity for students,” Minister McHugh said.
“DreamSpace is a top-class facility and place to learn and that goes not only for the students but for the teachers who join their classes on the trips.
“The facility is booked out for months in advance and it’s easy to see why – the €5 million that was spent by Microsoft on the centre has opened the doors for primary and Transition Year students to a world of new technology.
“It was also great to see Leo Camacho, a winner at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition last week, back with his classmates and right in the middle of everything on offer at the Microsoft centre.
“Thanks also to past pupils Derek O’Donnell and Declan Rafferty for helping with the visit and showing what a career at Microsoft is like.”
Minister McHugh added: “there is so much on offer at DreamSpace I’d encourage all Donegal schools to log on to dreamspace.ie get their names on the waiting list. I’ve no doubt that the skills and inspiration that students will take way for critical and collaborative problem-solving and self-learning will really stand to them.
“The support doesn’t end on the day either with Microsoft staff following up with teachers to give them lesson plans and learning content and help to keep the focus on the importance of Stem education.”
