A Letterkenny man who claimed he took cannabis to cope with insomnia has been fined in court.
Seamus Farrell, aged 28, of 1 Ard Glass, Letterkenny, was found in possession of cannabis, with a street value of €80 when Gardai called to the premises.
“He bought it in Derry for his own use,” solicitor Michael Shiel told Letterkenny District Court.
“He has completed a civil engineering course in LyIT and is going through Galway for an honours degree.
“He suffers terrible insomnia. When he takes sleeping tablets he feels very groggy’.
Two bags of cannabis, each with a value of €80, were found in the premises.
Another occupant, Chloe Farrell, admitted to owning the second bag.
“She foolishly bought a small bag of cannabis at a concern and kept it in her possession,” Mr Shiel said.
Judge Paul Kelly fined each of the defendants €150, payable to the Letterkenny Youth and Community club.
