The Emergency Department at Letterkenny Univerity Hospital is extremely busy again today as 46 sick patients are waiting on beds.
LUH is the second most overcrowded hospital in the country today, according to Trolley Watch figures by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.
As of this morning, there were seven people awaiting admission on trolleys and 36 waiting in overflow wards. This is the third day in a row that the hospital has been the second most overcrowded ED.
The hospital’s communications group, Saolta, said yesterday that a high volume of seriously ill patients have been admitted to LUH recently, placing a higher demand on beds.
The public has been reminded to attend the Emergency Department only in the case of real emergencies and they should contact their GP or GP Out-of-Hours service in the first instance.
