Rory Delap is part of an interim management team at Stoke City following the sacking of Gary Rowett.
Stoke, relegated to the Championship last season, sit 14th in the Championship and eight points off the play-off spots and Rowett has been relieved of his duties after only eight months in the hot-seat.
Delap, alongside Kevin Russell and Andy Quy, will take charge of first team affairs until an appointment is made.
David Moyes is the early favourite to take over as permanent manager.
Delap made almost 200 appearances for Stoke between 2006 and 2013.
Delap was capped 11 times for the Republic of Ireland. His father, John, is a native of Letterkenny and the family still have strong ties to the Cathedral Town, including his uncle Paddy, a newsagent on Lower Main Street.
