Donegal-based Presidential hopeful Peter Casey will soon be hitting the small screen as he gears up to feature in a documentary-type series.
The ex-Dragon’s Den star is said to be taking part in a television series which will follow him as he campaigns for a European Parliament seat.
Casey created uproar in the Presidentail race over his comments about the traveller community and welfare recipients.
However, the businessman pulled 23.25 per cent of the vote and came second in the race.
The Inishowen-based businessman met with production company Shinawil, who have produced shows such as Dragon’s Den, Masterchef and The Apprentice, before Christmas and has agreed to take part in the fly-on-the-wall series in his bid to win an MEP seat in the Midlands North-West constituency.
An inside source told the Irish Daily Mail: “People are interested in what Peter has to say. As it stands now, he has agreed to take part in a fly-on-the-wall series and when we met him before Christmas he was delighted to come on board.
“The hope is that he will decide to run in the European election later on this year. He said he is intent on running and if he gets the sort of support that he did in the presidential election, then he has a great chance.”
The series, which is still in its “early days”, will be pitched to RTE and Virgin Media and the source is adamant that it will be a hit with viewers because of Casey’s “compelling character”.
They said: “It is very early days, but with Peter on board it should make for compelling television.
“This style of documentary is very popular. You see them on Netflix and they can run for an hour or a half an hour.
“Peter is a compelling character and I would imagine RTE and Virgin would both be very interested in this project. He managed to speak and connect to people and I think they will love this project.”
