Some well-known people will be featured in a new TG4 series this week, titled ‘Beidh Aonach Amárach’, which goes behind the scenes of Ireland’s agricultural shows.
The programme captures the excitement, tension and fun experienced by competitors in Ireland’s country shows and fairs.
The Finn Valley show is the focus of episode one, airing this Thursday 10th January at 9.30pm.
Cameras will follow people who vie for the top spots in a startling array of classes and the army of volunteers who organise and judge these events.
The series sees competitors giving everything to be Best in Show — from cakes to cattle, flower-arranging to sheep-shearing, show-jumping to shiny cars, never mind the best vegetables, dogs, birds, clothes, art and craft.
The Finn Valley Show has been running now for 26 years, with many great characters behind the event.
Some of the people featured in the Donegal-centred episode include Show Secretary Enda Hamill, Vintage car owner James Campbell from Gleann an Fhinne and Pádraig Ó Baoill, a sheep farmer from Swaledales who now lives in Fintown.
Other contributors will include Cassandra Nic Aoidh and Lawrence Smyth from the Donegal Gaeltacht riding club – from Gweedore and Gortahork.
Beidh Aonach Amárach will take viewers into the heart of the country show scene in Ireland – a scene which is often great fun and an opportunity to catch up with friends and fellow enthusiasts. But it’s also seriously competitive and getting to the top demands dedication and devotion in your chosen field.
