Five caretakers at Letterkenny Institute of Technology swept up an incredible €3,100 in donations for Donegal Hospice this winter.
The popular team challenged themselves to a sponsored ‘No Shave November’ to raise money for the Donegal Hospice.
John Connaghan, Diarmuid O’Donnabhán, Tommy Duddy, Bernard Walsh and Paddy Patton all surrendered their shavers for 30 days. By the final day, they had great ‘Novembeards’ ready to be shaved off at a public event.

With the help of Muckers Barbers in Letterkenny, the volunteers staged a public shave in the main LYIT building and gathered even more donations for the fund.
The grand total of €3,100 was revealed last week and the caretakers proudly presented the proceeds to Isobel Doherty from the Donegal Hospice.

Ms Doherty congratulated the team, adding that the money will be put to great use at the centre:
“We are carrying out refurbishments at the moment, we are nearly ready to go to tender for a new build, and this money will be used to provide palliative care for the patients of Donegal. It’s brilliant and well done to the caretakers,” Ms Doherty said.

The (now fresh-faced!) caretakers added their thanks to everyone in the LYIT who contributed to their fundraiser and made it a real community achievement:
They said: “We wish to thank everyone who supported us over the month of November and on the day of the shave. Altogether we raised the princely sum of 3,100euro for Donegal Hospice.
