Adrian Doherty said his Loreto CS, Milford side produced ‘the half of all halves’ to keep their hands on the Arthurs Cup.

A tense 0-11 to 0-8 win over St Joseph’s Grammar School from Donaghmore secured the silverware for the second campaign in succession.

Loreto led narrowly, 0-6 to 0-5, at half-time, and saw John Matthews, their goalkeeper, make a wonderful save with the last play of the game to preserve their lead at the end.

“We spoke at half-time and we asked for the half of all halves. Jesus did they respond? You couldn’t ask for any more,” Doherty beamed.

“I’m delighted for them. I asked them to prove how good they were. They came out in the second half and they did that.

“Effort levels and ability, this team has it all.

“Our fitness levels are excellent and you could see us growing in confidence. We knew we’d get nothing easy.”
