There was a unique family success for the McGranaghan’s from Castlefin with Finn Valley’s medal-winning teams at the National underage cross-country championships at the weekend.
Father-and-son combination Peadar and Dermot McGranaghan were coached of the Finn Valley teams who returned to Navan with medals.

The U19 girls won silver medals with the U19 boys claiming bronze medals.
Their expectation and confidence was justified as the Valley 19 girls collected silver with Cassie Lagan (11), Daniella Jansen (29), Karen Gallagher (20) and Aoife McGrath (26) scoring 57 points to Waterford’s 24.
Add this to success at national U18 level and all the hard work was certainly worth it.
Further good news was to follow in the boys race as Ben Carr led a group of Adam McGranaghan, Donnachaidh Parkinson, Karol McGinley, Odhran O’Donnell and Aiden Connolly, bronze the ranking as members of the Donegal squad scoring 288 points behind Dublin and Cork
There were additional medals for Emily Kelly and Sara Alexander and encouraging runs from Ella McGlinchey and Sarah Bradley closes the book on yet another national championships.
The Novice men team finished 11th with scoring Shane Gallagher, Seamus O’Donnell, James McFadden and his brother John; no luck for what once again was an understrength Donegal squad.
