Last Saturday saw Cranford AC teams travel to Navan for the uneven Ages National Championships. It is a busy time of year for all our athletes but they were all enthusiastic to compete in this national event.
Storm Deirdre held off in the morning and the teams managed to race in mild but windy conditions. The Navan race course was a well laid out challenging course.
Five young athletes qualified to represent Cranford in the under 11 Girls race over 1500m. This was their first experience of this high level of competition and each athlete gave their all.
It was an entertaining race to watch and each girl demonstrated their composure under challenging conditions. These girls finished well up in this large field of athletes. Cliodhna McBride, Leah Gallagher, Karen Neely, Beth McClafferty and Emma McGee all produced fine performances.
Miah Fletcher, Clodagh Neely and Joycelene Diver all competed well in the under 13 girls race over this challenging 2500m course, these girls worked well as a team and finished over half way up in this large competitive field of athletes.
Caolan McFadden produced a fine personal performance out of his age over 2500m, Caolan held his position well throughout to finish a strong 24th and was part of the Ulster team which finished 3rd well done Caolan.
Finally for Cranford Oisin Kelly had a great start in his 3.5 K race against a competitive field of under 15 athletes.
The course was slippery underfoot now but Oisin held his position well and gained places throughout his run to finish 25th in this national championship. As always we like to thank the coaches Eamon, Ernie, Joe, Rose, Birdie and all the support from parents for assisting with the athletes.
