One of the Irish Naval Service’s most iconic vessels will be visiting Donegal this weekend.
Naval Service flagship, LÉ Eithne, will be in Rathmullan on Saturday 15th December.
The patrol vessel will be open to the public for guided tours by the ship’s crew. This is a unique chance for adults and children to explore a working Navy Vessel.
Tours will take place between 10am-12noon and 2pm-4pm this Saturday.
LÉ Eithne P31 was built in Ireland as a Helicopter Patrol Vessel and commissioned into service in 1984.
She has completed numerous foreign deployments and is the first Irish Naval Ship to cross the Atlantic, when she sailed to the United States in 1986, visiting Hamilton, New York and Boston.
The ship’s open day coincides with the Polar Plunge at Rathmullan Pier in aid of Special Olympics Ireland.
Brave volunteers will leap into the cold water at 1pm, with large crowds expected to visit the seaside village for the spectacle.
