The heartbroken victim of the Bundoran car crash said she worries about not being able to play and run with her son after losing the movement in her legs.
Rachel Elliott (25) from Fermanagh was one of six people travelling in a car which crashed in August this year. Two people died in the crash – Shiva Devine (20) from Belleek and Conall McAleer (20) from Kesh.
Rachel sustained serious injuries to her brain, back and pelvis.
In an emotional post on social media, she said she questions why people say she’s lucky to be alive. She said that losing the ability to walk is the next worst thing to cancer, and she has been angry with God over her ordeal.
She said: “I’m so angry and I think more and more each day I’m getting angrier cause I’m like why did you do this to me God?
“Why did you leave me without legs?”
Mum-of-one Rachel said she is struggling to cope knowing that she cannot run and play with her little boy Ronnie.
She said: “What life can I show my wee boy if he was to take off running away from me I can’t run after him? I can’t play with him the way I use to.. I don’t even have the strength to lift him up onto my knee.. what good am I?#8221;
“I cry every single day and I’m suffering so much!,” the young woman wrote.
As her medical treatment continues, Rachel said her bad days are frequent and she struggles to see how her progress can be ‘achievements’.
Many friends and strangers rushed in to offer comfort to Rachel after the heart-rending post. Motivational messages were posted on her timeline, telling her to stay strong, that her son is lucky to still have his mum, and praising her for sharing her feelings.
