The Beachcomber Bar in Rathmullan was overrun with fluffy visitors on Saturday last for the premiere of the village’s first dog show.
Many local pooches entered the Scruffs event in aid of small animal welfare.
The event was officiated by a professional judge, Marty Potts.
Dogs young and old, little and large, competed in ten categories.
Tania Hughes from the Academy Dog Training & Boarding Kennels was a special guest judge for the ‘Best Trick’ competition.
The overall winner was Perri, owned by Caroline McGettigan. Sprocket took second place, owned by Ryan Mason.
Scruffs organiser Clare Gallagher has many people to thank for making the day a great success.
Clare said: “I would like to thank all those who supported the event, in aid of small animal welfare, and to thank the wonderful dogs who entered. Their patience and forbearing were amazing!
“I would also like to thank people for donating a generous array of raffle prizes.
“Local businesses also pulled the stops out to supply us with a great range of raffle prizes, so a special mention goes to Rathmullan House; Irwin’s Electrical; Millie’s Boarding Kennels & Day Care Services; The Good Dog K9 Academy; Big Paddy’s; Charley’s Cafe; Century Cinemas; Moorfield Ramelton; Whoriskeys; Bernie McDaid and Rathmullan Charters.”
Clare added: “I also want to say a big thank you to Mary Lynch for her gifts and help on the day, along with Anna and Lisa. It would not have been possible without you all.
“I also want to praise the efforts of Cormac Fegan who steered us through, and kept us entertained, throughout the event with his fantastic commentary.
“And last but not least, I’d like to thank John T for giving us the space to hold the event, and for allowing the place to be overrun with dogs!
“We hope this will be the start of an annual dog show in Rathmullan.”
