The Donegal community is keeping a brave young man in their thoughts and prayers today as he undergoes a long-awaited surgery in Dublin.
Jason Hanlon, aged 26, from Doochary, is due to have spinal surgery in Tallaght Hospital to alleviate his agonising scoliosis.
Jason, who has Cerebral Palsy, has been living in extreme pain while on a waiting list for surgery. His family battled for months to secure a date for his operation, and after a number of setbacks, the day has finally come.
Jason’s sister Aine asked all the supporters of ‘Jason’s Journey’ to keep him in their prayers today:
Writing on Facebook last night, Aine said: “Keep your candles lit for tomorrow as Jason faces the biggest obstacle that he will ever have to face. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers over the next few days as time is now crucial.”
“Please please god give me and my family the strength to make it through these next few days, and let Jason give the strength to put up the biggest fight he will ever put up. We love you so much. Stay strong wee man,” Aine added.
The local community has come out in force to show support for Jason and his family in recent months. Local fundraisers were frequently held to raise money for Jason’s aftercare and to help his family as they stay with him in Dublin.
More than €14,000 has been generated on Jason’s GoFundMe page from over 220 kind donators.
All money raised ahead of the surgery will cover the costs for the renovations of the Hanlon family home and specialised equipment needed for Jason’s aftercare.
