Three new Donegal projects have been allocated €450,000 by the Donegal Local Action Group under the LEADER Rural Development Programme 2014-2020.
The funding has been welcomed by the Chair of the Donegal Local Development Committee Cllr Martin McDermott.
The three projects include the development of an Astroturf pitch in Kilmacrennan, the promotion of tourism in north Donegal through the development of Glamping facilities in Creeslough and the establishment of a sailing charter service at Malin Head to add to the tourism offering in the area.
The EU funded LEADER Programme aims to improve the quality of life in rural areas and to encourage diversification of economic activity in rural areas. It seeks to bring about positive change helping to support and sustain rural areas for the better.
Cllr Martin McDermott welcomed the decision by the Donegal Local Action Group to approve funding for the three new projects.
“The approval of the projects with a combined value of over €450,000 is an indication of the importance of the LEADER programme to the county in promoting the sustainable development of rural communities and improving the overall quality of life for rural dwellers,” he said.
To date 97 projects in Donegal have been approved LEADER funding under the current programme with a total value of €4.3m.
