Two Donegal county councillors say Donegal has lost the opportunity to send a message to the Government that we are the forgotten county.
Councillors Micheal Mac Giolla Easbuig and John Campbell were the only two councillors to vote against the county council budget for 2019 at County House in Lifford yesterday.
The budget was passed yesterday by 28 to 2.
There will be no change in commercial rates although there will be a €2.8million fall in expenditure.
Councillor Mac Giolla Easbuig said yesterday was a lost opportunity to send a message to Dublin that Donegal will not continue to sit back and be treated so badly by central government.
“That was a real opportunity lost as we could have sent a real message that we are being badly treated in Donegal.
“We could have made a real point and yet these other councillors just chose to nod and accept how we are being treated.
“These are the same councillors who complain about our hospitals, our poor road infrastructure, our lack of broadband and everything else that Donegal is lacking.
“I can look the electorate in the yet these other councillors say one thing but vote the other way,” he said.
