Anam Cara, the national organisation that supports bereaved parents, has been chosen as one of the Irish Road Victims Association (IRVA) Light of Hope Awardees.
Anam Cara is a national organisation set up in 2008 by bereaved parents to support bereaved parents throughout Ireland. They hold monthly support meetings for parents in Donegal locations including Letterkenny, Buncrana, Donegal Town and Dungloe.
The Annual World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims was held on Sunday 18th November 2018 with families coming together to remember the many millions killed and injured on the world’s roads.
To mark this special remembrance day, the IRVA held a special ceremony in Bloomfield House Mullingar.
This year, families from across Ireland gathered to remember their loved ones, those injured and the wonderful work of first responders. Following a moving ceremony, the IRVA presented their “Light of Hope” award to Anam Cara.
Anam Cara’s Sharon Vard, CEO who collected the award on behalf of Anam Cara groups nationwide said “We are honoured to receive this award and commend the work of IRVA in addressing the needs of those bereaved or injured in road traffic collisions together with the progress they have made in reducing the dangers on our roads.
“Anam Cara’s continued relationship with the IRVA shows how organisations can work together in providing a wraparound service to families who have experienced the tragic death of their son or daughter on Irish roads”.
