The pupils of St Joseph’s National School last night received a hero’s welcome home to Rathmullan after scooping a top award at the FiS National Schools Film Awards at the Helix in Dublin.
Their short animated film entitled ‘Gone but not Forgotten’ depicts Rathmullan’s story about The Flight of the Earls.
It was created by the children, working with Cormac O’Kane from the LYIT, and was premiered at the inaugural Rathmullan Film Festival last year.
This is a fantastic achievement for the children, Rathmullan and for Donegal.
Special thanks went to Muinteoir Alma Kavanagh, Sharon Graham and Derek Brennan who worked tirelessly with the 5th and 6th classes to produce the award-winning animated film.
The children returned to Rathmullan last night around 7pm and were met by many of their supporters.
A statement from the Rathmullan Film Festival said they were lost for words.
“Words cannot describe how proud we are of Alma Kavanagh Sharon Graham Cormac O’Kane and the super talented kids for winning and bringing this prestigious awards to Rathmullan.
“The incredible film they created is proof that anything can be achieved with a little bit of imagination, effort and creativity. It also represents well what our Festival is about: local creativity (whether as young filmmakers, as film programmers, and as event organisers). We look forward to future collaborations.”
Congrats to all involved on an amazing win for the school, Rathmullan and Co Donegal.
