John Campbell (Buncrana and LyIT)
Letterkenny Institute of Technology reached the Division 2 League semi-final thanks to a fine 6-10 to 0-11 win over Waterford IT in Louth on Thursday. Buncrana man John Campbell was on fire for LyIT, scoring 3-3 in the win.
Joe Dunleavy (Ulster Rugby)
Friday is a night that will live long in the memory for Letterkenny’s Joe Dunleavy. The flanker made his Ulster senior debut in the 21-5 test win over Uruguay at the Kingspan Stadium. Dunleavy had previously played for Ulster at U20 and A levels. The Malone player had a solid outing for the province and will hope to bank many more appearances at this grade.
Sean McBride (LyIT)
Last Tuesday, LyIT caused a stir when they defeated top Colleges side Carlow IT 2-1 in the CFAI Cup. Although they fell behind early in the game, LyIT hit back and a stunning volley from McBride set them on their way to a famous win.
Kyle McFadden (Loreto Community School)
The goose looked cooked for Loreto Community School in last week’s Donegal Schools U16 final when they trailed Abbey VS in Convoy by seven points. But the Milford students rallied and Kyle McFadden hit five points in a row to help draw them level. A late Liam McGrenaghan point secured a memorable win for Loreto, having been teed up by McFadden’s scores.
Wendy Patterson (Raphoe Hockey Club)
Raphoe senior ladies found themselves 1-0 down at home to North Down in Senior One on Saturday at half-time. But the Raphoe ladies shook their heads clear and, inspired by Wendy Patterson, mounted a stirring comeback. Patterson’s hat-trick earned Raphoe a superb 3-1 win.
