Gaoth Dobhair and Donegal have been dealt a severe blow with the confirmation that Kieran Gillespie has suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury.
Gillespie went down awkwardly after just a few seconds of Sunday’s Ulster club SFC quarter-final against Erin’s Own at Corrigan Park.
After being attended to by medics, Gillespie was stretchered off. A subsequent MRI scan on Monday afternoon, the news was confirmed today that he had suffered a rupture of an anterior cruciate ligament.
Owing to two operations in 2017 to correct hip injuries, Gillespie played no football for Donegal in 2018 but his form had been excellent for his club, who ran out 3-11 to 1-13 winners today.
Gillespie is the second Donegal player to sustain cruciate agony after ace forward Patrick McBrearty picked up a similar injury during the Ulster final win over Fermanagh.
The Gaoth Dobhair club are expected to release a statement this evening regarding Gillespie’s injury.
