It could be argued that the tail end of Hurricane Oscar was the real winner in the 2nd outing, President’s Prize, of the Donegal ETB Golf Society on Saturday last as the extreme conditions beat many of the brave souls into submission.
Gale force winds and an ugly, lasting squall meant that even finishing the round was an achievement in itself.
It was Éanna Ó Mainnín who came out on top on the day, drawing on the experience of his youthful days braving the wilds of Connemara to win by two points from a dogged Alex Harkin who pipped Kevin Murphy on break of tie with Paddy McDaid taking the 4th place prize.
The prizes were completed with society stalwart Sean Murphy winning the retired members prize and Mr ETB Golf himself, Jim McGlynn winning the Category 4 prize.
Outgoing Donegal ETB Chairperson, and President of the society, Ms Rena Donaghey kindly agreed to attend to present the prizes and commended those present for finishing the round on such a day!
The society takes a break now for a couple of months until we resume early in the new year in Donegal Golf Club, Murvagh.
The standings after two outings are- 1. Eanna O Mainnin-46pts, 2. Alex Harkin-40pts, 3. Rory White-34pts, 4. Elaine Russell-30pts and Gareth Doherty-24pts.
