Brexit is fraying Britain’s relationship with Ireland and undermining the Good Friday Agreement, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has warned.
Speaking on RTÉ’s Marian Finucane programme, Leo Varadkar said anything that pulls the two communities apart undermines the Good Friday Agreement.
The Taoiseach has argued securing clarity around Brexit in the near-term would provide “a window of opportunity” to resolve the continuing crisis at Stormont.
He also said Ireland was entering into a potentially difficult period, even if an agreement is struck.
Speaking on Saturday, Leo Varadkar said: “Brexit has undermined the Good Friday Agreement and it is fraying relationships between Britain and Ireland.
“Anything that pulls the two communities apart in Northern Ireland undermines the Good Friday Agreement and anything that pulls Britain and Ireland apart undermines that relationship.”
Mr Varadkar also insisted he has a good relationship with DUP leader Arlene Foster.
