Cllr Michael Naughton, Chair of the Donegal Town Municipal District, has visited the Department of Transport and Infrastucture with members of Donegal County Council to discuss funding for planned road improvement projects in Donegal for 2019.
Cllr Naughton said that after travelling & meeting officials from the TII in Dublin, he is hopeful Donegal can secure €47 Million funding for Donegal roads.
He said “I am very hopeful that we are getting nearly €14 Million and I got reassurance that €9.3 million will be made available for Phase 2 of the Mountcharles By-Pass from Drunbeigh to Inver and also some funding towards improvements on the Inver to Killybegs road as well as agreeing the route for this By-Pass. The upgrade of this road is vital to South Donegal, the fishing port of Killybegs & our biggest tourism attraction Sliabh Liag.”
Currently in the Donegal Town Municipal area the Mountcharles to Drumbeigh By-Pass is ongoing and completion is planned for the second quarter of 2019.
“We are also hopeful if successful in securing funding that we can complete surface replacement from Ardaghy to Dunkineely and from Dunkineely to Bruckless. And to providing safety measures on the N15 at the Lough Eske junction on the Donegal Town to Ballybofey road and also from Ballyshannon to Donegal Town road on the N15 at Cavan Gardens, “ says Cllr Naughton.
He added “Road clarification was also addressed at today’s meeting about the improvements planned on the Laghey to Pettigo Road on the R232. All in all it was a positive meeting & we hope to hear more in the coming weeks,” concludes Cllr Michael Naughton.
