Met Eireann has put Donegal on yellow alert as gusts of up to 100kph are expected to pummel in overnight tomorrow.
Donegal and five other counties including Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry will see southerly winds reach mean speeds of 50 to 65kph heading towards the weekend.
The Status Yellow wind warning kicks in tomorrow at 3pm and will remain in place until midday on Saturday.
A Met Eireann forecaster revealed: “Southerly winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h, gust 90 to 100 km/h later Friday and Friday night in Atlantic coastal counties, strongest on the coast.”
There’s also a risk of spot flooding in the west and north this weekend – but temperatures are due to stay mild.
The forecaster added: “Friday night will be wet and very windy. Southerly winds increasing very strong and gusty and will reach gale force on some coasts.
“A spell of heavy rain also, with a risk of spot flooding, especially in the west and north. It will be a very mild night with temperatures in the low teens.”
Temperatures will be above normal on Saturday after a windy start.
The forecaster continued: “Still blustery on Saturday morning, with strong and gusty southerly winds.
“Cloudy and misty too, with some heavy rain, but less windy and turning brighter and more showery for the second half of the day.”
