Niall O’Donnell helped himself to ten points as St Eunan’s cruised into the U21 Championship semi-finals.
St Eunan’s 2-19 St Michael’s 0-7
Second half goals from substitutes Sean Halvey and Oisin McGarvey propelled the black and amber to a 18-point win.
They were already 11 points up when Halvey prodded past Dean McColgan from close range.
McGarvey tucked home soon after, but by that stage it was all over bar the shouting with David O’Herlihy’s team having done the spadework in a dominant first half, after which they led 0-11 to 0-1.
Peter McEniff’s fisted point after 30 seconds put St Eunan’s in front and it set the tone for a one-sided affair.
By the time Colm McFadden hit the visitors’only point of the first half in the 14th minute, Niall O’Donnell (pictured), with two frees, and Niall Hannigan had Eunan’s 0-4 to 0-1 in front.
O’Donnell landed an excellent score to cancel out McFadden’s response and St Eunan’s coasted for the remainder of the opening half.
Hannigan drilled over a pair of brilliant points, the second of them from wide on the left, to stretch the lead even further.
Another two from O’Donnell and one each from Eoin McGeehin and Rory Carr had St Eunan’s 0-11 to 0-1 ahead at the changeover.
Although Edward O’Reilly and McFadden did stem the flow somewhat, a comeback never seemed likely.
O’Donnell popped over a free, won the subsequent kick-out and steered over again to put 11 between them.
St Eunan’s struck gold with a pair of goals to widen the margin and they might have had a third, but Conor O’Donnell was denied by a strong save from McColgan, with Carr’s follow-up also beaten away.
But McGarvey, Shane O’Donnell and Niall O’Donnell were on the mark as St Eunan’s eased their way into the semis.
