Former Irish athletics team manager Patsy McGonagle has been appointed as the new Chairperson of DLDC.
The Ballybofey man managed the Irish athletics team a record 68 times, including at four Olympic Games, was elected to the role today in Letterkenny.
McGonagle, who is chairperson of Finn Valley AC and who has been instrumental in the club’s development, takes over from Jim Slevin in the role.
Councillor Patrick Mc Gowan,
Cathaoirleach Stranorlar Municipal District, has welcomed the election of McGonagle.
“Patsy is well known internationally, nationally and locally for his commitment, drive and passion for community development and I know Patsy will serve with distinction, Cllr McGowan said.
“As a board member I look forward to working with Patsy and the new members on the Board.”
Cllr McGowan also paid tribute to the outgoing chair Jim Sleven.
He said: “He was undoubtedly one of the best Local Development company Chairs in the whole of Ireland and the track record of DLDC over many many years is evidence of that.
“DLDC is one of the best performing Companies in Ireland and have attracted additional funding owing to good management and dedicated staff and indeed the board of DLDC itself.”
