A man who led Garda on a car chase during which he reached speeds of 150kph was later found with €2,000 of drugs in his house.
Sean Murray appeared at Letterkenny District Court charged with possession of drugs and dangerous driving.
The court was told that on April 29th last, Gardai spotted Murray at Kelly’s Service Station at Mountain Top in Letterkenny.
They followed Murray, aged 23, and after leaving off his female passenger he took off and reached speeds of up to 150kph.
He mounted a footpath and went onto grass verges as a number of pedestrians walked by.
Gardai decided to stop the pursuit because of the danger to members of the public, the court was told.
Later that day, Gardai called to Murray’s home address and discovered more than €2,000 of cocaine and also more than €2,000 in cash as well as a “tick list.”
Murray, who is a cocaine addict, said that the drugs were his but they were for distribution to his friends.
His father had died when he was just 3 years old and his mother was currently living in Australia and he had been raised by an aunt.
He was supported in court by his aunt and by his girlfriend.
A letter, written by Murray, was handed into Judge Paul Kelly.
His solicitor, Mr Gordon Curley, told the court that his client had an addiction to cocaine and was keen to get treatment for his addiction.
He added that he had held down a number of jobs including one in the circus.
Judge Kelly said that these were very serious matters.
He remanded Murray in custody until November 19th and asked for a probation and community service report.
Mr Curley asked the court to direct that his client received all the relevant rehabilitation in relation to his drugs programme.
