Former Mayo football head coach Stephen Rochford has joined Declan Bonner’s Donegal backroom team for the 2019 season.
Donegal Daily revealed on Tuesday that Rochford was being lined up to join Declan Bonner’s backroom staff in a major shake-up.
He joins Bonner’s Ulster champions as a coach and team selector.
Rochford will replace Karl Lacey, who has stepped away from the Donegal staff citing family reasons.
In a statement released by Donegal GAA, it read: ‘CLG Dun na nGall wish to announce that following our successful year of 2018 that the following Coaching and Mentoringpersonnell of Karl Lacey, Anthony Mc Grath, and John Mc Elhome shall leave the Senior Football backroom team.
‘We thank them for their committed dedication to the development of our County squad.
Rochford led Mayo to two narrow All-Ireland Final defeats by Dublin.
Mayo lost after a final replay to the Dublin in 2016 and were edged by a point in the decider a year later.
This year, after a qualifier defeat by Kildare, Mayo missed out on a place in the Super 8s – spelling the end of Rochford’s reign.
